overnight solo
Long used as a means to reconnect with the
land and develop important skills, the
overnight solo is an exercise in patience,
inner strength, self control, courage and
confidence. Before heading out to face this
challenge, participants are given instruction
on basic survival skills including fire lighting
and shelter building. In the late afternoon
everyone is given there location for the night
and left alone to settle in, build a shelter and,
if they're lucky, light a fire. A staff member
remains close by in case of emergency or in
the unlikely event a participant finds the challenge
a little beyond their means! The next morning
everyone is gathered together to return to camp
and share our experiences on what has usually
been a long night for most! For all those who
succeed it is a truly proud achievement.
